IB Programme
JPPS is the first Jewish Day School in Canada to offer the International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Programme ( IB PYP)
At JPPS, we prepare our students to be active participants in a life-long journey of learning and success.
IB-PYP
Throughout the programme, students grow to love learning about the real world and appreciate diverse cultures, languages and global perspectives. Our teachers adopt a holistic approach to teaching across multiple disciplines, giving our students a global understanding of real world issues.
The programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the outside world. It connects learning to real life transdisciplinary experiences within the school, local and in the world community.
As they make their way through the IB-PYP, our students become open-minded and reflective critical thinkers, ready to thrive in high school and beyond. They constantly surprise their parents and teachers with their leadership skills, cultivating agency and taking ownership of their learning.
Combining our progressive Jewish viewpoint with the IB-PYP Framework stimulates students to embrace critical thinking and nurture their spiritual growth.

The PYP framework is grounded in six transdisciplinary themes:
- Who We Are
- Where are in Place and Time
- How We Express Ourselves
- How the World Works
- How We Organize Ourselves
- Sharing the Planet

Grade 2 project
Our Grade 2 students embarked on an inspiring IB project focused on inventions and inventors, following a transdisciplinary model that seamlessly integrated elements of science, mathematics, language arts, and social studies. Tasked with the challenge of creating their own original product, these young innovators began with a comprehensive mind-mapping session to refine their ideas into viable products. Following this, the students developed detailed business plans, defining their target market, pricing strategies, the specific problems their inventions would solve, and identifying potential competitors. This project not only fostered a deeper understanding of business fundamentals but also encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking among our students. The initiative beautifully encapsulated the essence of the IB's inquiry-based learning approach, turning youthful imagination into potential market-ready innovations.
